Spring "Cleansing" through Nourishment, NOT Deprivation

"Detoxing" or revamping our diets after emerging from long, hard winters stems from a very ancient and practical tradition.

Winter in many parts of the world throughout human history meant eating tons of meat, salty preserves, dairy, and other high fat, difficult to digest foods.

This kind of diet often leads to an accumulation of toxic waste material and even parasites that leaves us feeling weighed down and sluggish.

Nature, in its infinite wisdom, provided humans in these areas of the world with precisely the plants that they needed in order transition from heavy sleepy winter to bouncy, active spring. Many of these herbs were wisely dubbed "alteratives," which simply means that they bring the body back to its proper state of functioning.

However, being disconnected from this generational knowledge, today most of us believe that spring cleansing necessitates fasting from solid foods, chugging lemon water and cayenne, daily flavor-of-month enemas, and popping activated charcoal like candy.

However, this mindset of deprivation and depletion as a route towards health was bred in the same patriarchal, puritanical stews as our mechanized, sterilized healthcare system…

...and we all know how effective that has been for us.  *If you don't, as a reminder, medical treatment is now the third leading cause of death in the United States.*

While cleanliness is next to Godliness, may have served our ancestors as an aphorism for a time, we have clearly taken it a bit too far. Microbial life is in fact the very root of our overall health…

...both inside and out. Our guts and our skin require diverse and lively colonies of microbial life in order function.

Unfortunately, the model of health that we have had foisted upon us by the barron robbers of old has led us to strip our stomachs, our skins, our soils, and the planet of so much microbial life that we've lost 87% of the insects on this planet in the last 40 years.

It's time to nourish and fortify ourselves as a route towards wholeness, as our wise witchy ancestors once did.

The folk philosophy of healing states that whatever isn't supposed to be in your body is pushed out once you bring in what your body actually needs and craves.

The folk approach to healing requires that we develop a trust in the innate intelligence of our body to heal itself when given proper attention and sustenance.

When nourished our bodies become incredibly brilliant and can detox and heal with awesome speed and efficiency.

So rather than downing nothing but lemon water for days on end, we can instead feed our bodies through nourishing herbal infusions and daily doses of mineral and microbial rich tonic herbs.

Many of our tonic herbs also support the kidneys and liver, and therefore naturally increase the body’s capacity to eliminate toxins.

Many of these herbs are also anti-inflammatory, immune tonifying, and rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

Working with these herbs in the way that I teach in my coaching and apprenticeship programs will rapidly lead to the results that we actually crave: shedding extra pounds, brighter skin, greater vitality, and more ease and joy in our experience of embodiment.
